Dominic Dumville, Corporate Finance Executive

"We spend our days in an excellent working environment and having embraced the paperless approach to office working, computers and IT are at the heart of everything we do. Most of the time this is a good thing! "
What made you choose Haslers?
On becoming part ACCA qualified with a small practice in the city, I realised that in order to progress my career I needed to consider my next step. As a top 40 firm with a far broader client base and comprehensive exam support, Haslers was an obvious choice. Also the fact that Haslers had a number of growing specialist departments meant that the long term prospects were far greater than where I started my training. Soon after arriving at Haslers I was relieved to discover that the promised work life balance was in fact a reality.
What attracted you to your specialist area?
While working in the BSG department I completed my ACCA exams and continued to progress as an audit senior. Not wanting to leave Haslers but keen to grow my experience beyond audit, I became very interested to in some of the other more specialist departments here. During an opportunity to work on a project with the corporate finance department, I realised this type of work suited me and applied to move when a suitable post became available. I have been with the corporate finance department since April 2007.
How would you describe an average day?
A day at Haslers: The partners´ open door policy reflects the relaxed working environment and team focus that makes Haslers a good place to work. Following the move to the Loughton office in 2006, we spend our days in an excellent working environment and having embraced the paperless approach to office working, computers and IT are at the heart of everything we do. Most of the time this is a good thing.
What have you learnt from your time at Haslers?
While at Haslers I have realised I am going to enjoy a career in accountancy. Having graduated from University with a Music degree there were not too many obvious options as what I should or could do next. At that time my decision to train as an accountant was more logical than heartfelt and has turned out to be a good one.
How were your exams - honestly?
The exams are a lot of hard work, but by no means impossible. The training support Haslers offer to staff give candidates the best chance of possible of getting through.
Now you´ve qualified, how did you find the transition from trainee to manager?
I´m looking forward to this transition.
Do you have any other comments you would like to make about your experience here?
Haslers is a good firm to work for, I know because I´ve experienced the other end of the scale.
