Reporting to the Partners or assigned deputy


The Caretaker/Handyperson will be responsible for the overall condition of the office building in Loughton and assist with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the Firm.


Basic maintenance and general repairs to the interior and exterior of the offices including car park

  • Replacing failed lighting units and carrying out other minor repairs
  • Liaison with maintenance contractors e.g. for lifts, boilers, air-conditioning, and any contractors appointed to carry out major works
  • Maintain and update list of key contractor contacts
  • Re-decoration as necessary
  • Re-arrange furniture around the building and set up meeting rooms inc IT equipment
  • Move files and other heavy objects around the building as required
  • Move files and other equipment to external storage
  • Responsible for checking supplies in toilet areas and ensuring well stocked
  • Responsible for cleanliness in the car park area and clean designated cars when required
  • Ensure rubbish bins are properly maintained and liaison with refuse collectors
  • Be a contact for the keyholding company and be available for emergency repairs and other emergency matters on site out of hours
  • Maintenance of flower beds in front of the building as required
  • Provide overall security back-up for Reception. Patrol building daily on arrival in the morning and before leaving in the evening to check if any maintenance or repairs required
  • Purchase of office supplies by visits to Costco or other locations
  • Checking and filling up of coffee machines on each floor and responsible for cleanliness of all kitchen areas.
  • Assisting in maintaining the office filing facilities
  • Assisting in the movement of documents between the firm’s offices and offsite storage facilities
  • Assisting with post, scanning and other administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the office
  • Buying fruit and supplies from Sainsburys
  • Buying stuff from M&S for working lunches/training courses
  • Opening and taking round post
  • Moving partitions/furniture around for meetings
  • Any other tasks as reasonably requested by staff members


The successful candidate will be required to work part-time (20-25 hours per week) with flexibility to work at the weekends when necessary (overtime/time in lieu will be given). They also need to be self-motivated and proactive with excellent organisation skills.
