Changes to Statement of Fitness to Work (“Fit Note”)
Effective 1 July 2022
From 1 July 2022 a Statement of Fitness to work (“fit note”) can be issued by healthcare professionals other than a GP. Nurses, occupational therapists, pharmacies, and physiotherapists will all be able to issue the notes.
The change is due to substantial pressure on GP’s dealing with the consequences of a large rise in sickness in the workplace. These changes should go someway to alleviate the pressure on GPs.
There are no changes to internal absences reporting procedures, but you should be aware that you may receive fit notes from other professionals.
