Local accountants take on 10,000-mile challenge for charity

Staff and partners at the Loughton-based firm, Haslers Chartered Accountants, are attempting to complete a 10,000-mile challenge in just four months to raise money for charity.

Nearly equivalent to travelling from their offices in Old Station Road to Los Angeles and back, the team at Haslers will walk, run, swim and cycle over the monumental distance before the end of September to raise money for its in-house charity, Haslers Foundation.

The Haslers Foundation supports a number of good causes across Essex and beyond. For every mile covered, the firm hopes to raise £1, which means that by the end of the challenge they hope to hit their target of £10,000.

To help staff get in the spirit the firm will be taking part in and hosting a number of events, including its own triathlon and a 24-hour 100-mile relay.

Some of the team will also participate in the 100k Thames Path challenge and the Great Team Relay 5k – a relay run finishing in the Olympic Stadium in London. One staff member will even be taking part in the Iron Man Triathlon taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In order to complete the challenge, staff will have to cover 125 miles on average, although some members will take on the lion’s share of the challenge, including its Chairman and experienced runner, Jon O’Shea, who will be attempting to run 31 consecutive half marathons during the month of August.

He said: “All of the team are very excited to be taking part in this challenge and we are looking forward to testing ourselves. At Haslers, our staff regularly raise money for charity by participating in events, but this may be our most difficult challenge yet, so we would welcome any support that is offered.

“Money raised through this challenge will go towards a number of important local causes including Havens Hospice, Teenage Cancer Trust, St Clare Hospice and The Dream Factory, which are very close to our hearts. We hope to meet our fundraising target with the help from our friends, families and clients.”
