The in-house charity of Loughton-based accountancy firm Haslers is delighted to learn that its recent donation to Support Dogs has helped with the training of an adorable new pooch.

The Haslers Foundation regularly makes donations to local causes and felt that Support Dogs was a fantastic charity to back.

The donation by the Haslers Foundation has gone to the training of specialist Disability Assistance Dog who will assist a person who lives in Hertfordshire.

Support Dogs provides the animals to adults affected by some of the most challenging physical disabilities, as well as conditions such as autism and epilepsy. Unusually for an assistance dog charity, many of the dogs that the charity trains come to them through rescue centre’s or as unwanted pets.

The dogs provide practical assistance with tasks such as opening and closing doors, picking up objects and even assisting with showering. They are also trained to raise the alarm in an emergency situation and comfort a person who is in distress.

The charity has given 674,520 hours of support to people with severe medical conditions – empowering them to live with greater independence

Jon O’Shea, Chairman at Haslers Chartered Accountants, said: “It costs well over £20,000 to train and look after a Support Dog and so we are glad that the foundation can do its small bit to help this charity.

“We are delighted that our donation will make a life changing difference to someone affected by a significant physical disability.”

Danny Anderson Fundraising Manager at Support Dogs said “We are honoured that Haslers have chosen to support our charity like this. We are a small charity facing an unprecedented demand for our work and rely entirely on voluntary donations. This really will help us save and improve more lives.”
