MP’s annual Christmas card competition receives cracker of an entry

A pupil at Epping Primary School has won a Christmas card competition held by Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing and sponsored by Haslers Chartered Accountants – one of Essex’s leading independent accountancy firms.

The winning depiction of Santa standing in the snowy surrounds of Epping Forest was created by nine-year-old Jayden Connolly.

His entry was one of the hundreds submitted by more than 20 local schools across the MP’s constituency who were invited to enter the competition.

Mrs Laing visited the school and announced the winner, Jayden, before presenting him with a prize and a selection of the special cards he had helped to design.

Jayden said he was “really proud” to have won the competition, which was once again sponsored by Loughton-based chartered accountants Haslers, which also made a donation to St Clare Hospice in Hastingwood as part of its work with the MP.

More than 900 copies of Jayden’s design have now been produced and will be sent out to fellow MPs and leading dignitaries, including Prime Minister Theresa May.

Mrs Laing said: “I was delighted to visit Epping Primary School and meet Jayden and his classmates in Ash Class and to present Jayden with his book prize and also some of the cards so he can send them to his friends and family.

“Jayden came up with a brilliant design and I was particularly impressed with Santa’s brilliant red coat and his beaming smile.”

Jon O’Shea, Chairman of Haslers, added: “We have supported Mrs Laing’s popular card competition for a number of years now and we were delighted to see this year’s fantastic entries.

“Jayden’s really stood out and we are delighted that his card will now be going out to hundreds of people across the UK.”
