Under current Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) regulations, all academies must retender their external audit contract at least every five years.

Recently, the ESFA has updated its best practice guidance on the appointment of auditors, which is available to view here.

The guide sets out best practice and important information requirements, to help academy trusts appoint an external auditor that will provide the highest quality, cost effective and efficient audit. It includes advice on the process of retendering, including benchmarking and the requirement to inform the ESFA of any change of auditor.

If your academy or MAT has not reviewed its audit provider recently, now may be the time to reflect on the audit services you receive.

Haslers’ specialist education audit team will ensure you are compliant with all relevant regulatory requirements, and offer robust, independent opinion. Our approach is to focus on your specific needs and to add value wherever we can by standing back to see the bigger picture.

Each audit and assurance team is led by a Partner who is actively involved with your assignment, and is hands-on throughout the process.  We pride ourselves in being accessible with quick response times.

Although an audit might sometimes seem like a time-consuming, box ticking chore, it can bring real insight to your school when carried out the right way.
