Companies House Identity Verification

Director & PSCs Identity Verification

Getting You Verified

Earlier this year Companies House introduced new identity verification requirements for UK Directors & Persons of Significant Control (PSCs).

Haslers are on hand to ensure you get verified.

About

You may have recently received a message from Companies House regarding new identity verification rules for directors and PSCs, effective from 18 November 2025 (a new legal requirement under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023).

Although there has been some suggestion that accountants may be best placed to directly help with this process, The Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW), of which Haslers is a member, has advised its firms not to offer this service, due to strict compliance protocols required for the Identity checks.

This is therefore a process that you as a Director or PSC must complete yourself. This will ensure maximum accuracy and compliance.

Getting verified is a relatively simple process. And can be completed in a matter of minutes.

Verification can be done one of two ways

  • In person at selected UK Post Offices

In both instances you will need to follow the process as outlined on the following page: www.gov.uk/guidance/verify-your-identity-for-companies-house

You will require

  • Your ID (preferably your digital passport and a smart phone (iPhone or Android phone).
  • Your GOV.UK One login, or have already registered for one, before starting.

Once you have completed verification

Once you have completed the process you will be issued an IDentity Verification Code (IDV code), which you will need to forward to us, as accountants so that we may file documents on the Company’s behalf (i.e. Accounts and Confirmation Statements)

FAQ

Who needs to complete ID verification?

The new requirements apply to:

• New directors and people with significant control (PSCs)

• Existing directors and PSCs

• Members of a limited liability partnership (LLP)

PSC’s or People with Significant control are normally, but not exclusively, those with more than 25% of the shares.

When does the ID verification need to be completed by?

The timing depends whether you are an existing (before 18 November 2025) or new (from 18 November 2025) Director (or equivalent) or PSC.

As my accountant, why can’t Haslers complete this process for me?

As a proud member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW), we have been advised by the professional body not to offer ID Verification as a service. Their direction is due to the strict compliance protocols required for the identity checks.

What happens if I don’t complete identity verification?

From 18 November 2025, Companies House will not accept confirmation statements or other filings unless directors and PSCs are verified. Missing the deadline could lead to delays, penalties, or restrictions.

I have questions. Who can I speak to?

As ever, the Haslers team are on-hand to provide as much support as necessary. Although we can’t work to verify your identity on your behalf, we are on hand to talk you through the process and support as required.
